Temperature measurement using resistance thermometers is based on the characteristic, common to all conductors and semiconductors, of changing their electrical resistance as the temperature varies. The PT100 sensor has an ohmic value of 100 at a temperature of 0°C and its coefficient of variation is 0.00385 ohm per °C. The technology suitable for meeting modern requirements for more precise measurements involves the use of very thin layers of platinum on a ceramic substrate (thin film resistors).
Since the resistance of the connecting cables (which varies with temperature) is added to the sensor resistance, a three-wire system is used to cancel the error.
The PT100 Easy-up probes are combined with a numeric code which, when inserted into the Pixsys regulators, allows self-programming of the main operating parameters.
